Dr. John Dowling is a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine. He is the current secretary of the South of Ireland Association of Anaesthetists (2016).
He studied dentistry at University College Cork (UCC) and subsequently worked in the United Kingdom (UK) National Health Service (NHS) before returning to UCC to study medicine. He undertook his anaesthesia and intensive care training in Ireland and was conferred with a Fellowship in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine (FCAI) from the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland in 2011; and completed his specialist training in 2012 (CST - Completion of Specialist Training). This was followed by a Paediatric Anaesthesia Fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Dowling subsequently undertook a Fellowship in Cardiac Anaesthesia, Perioperative Echocardiography and Cardiac Critical Care at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto before taking up his current post with Mercy University Hospital (MUH).
Dr. Dowling has a strong interest in paediatric anaesthesia and perioperative paediatric care; and in both undergraduate and postgraduate anaesthesia education.
He is currently the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland clinical tutor for MUH.
